The International Societies for Investigative Dermatology (ISID) and LEO Foundation have partnered to launch the ISID-LEO Foundation Awards — a collaboration designed to amplify the reach and impact of these prestigious recognitions for early-career skin researchers.

The partnership brings administration of the awards under ISID, providing consistent support and broader promotion across the global dermatology research community. This is especially significant for the Asia-Pacific region, which previously had limited administrative infrastructure for the awards program. The goal is to ensure exceptional science from all ISID regions receives the visibility and support it deserves.

The ISID-LEO Foundation Awards recognize outstanding scientists whose work represents an extraordinary contribution to skin research and has the potential to pave the way for new and improved treatments for skin diseases. Three awards of $100,000 each are given annually — one in each global region: Americas, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa), and Asia-Pacific.

What This Means for Applicants

  • Greater visibility within the global investigative dermatology community through SID, ESDR, and Asian society channels
  •  Enhanced networking opportunities and potential collaborations across ISID regions
  • Consistent application support and communication throughout the evaluation process
  • ISID-LEO Foundation Alumni status, connecting you with a growing international cohort of emerging leaders in skin science

Clinicians, scientists, epidemiologists, engineers, and pharmacists collaborate closely in a transdisciplinary manner, resulting in over 20 years of successful funding across multiple disciplines. Another feature that highlights the uniqueness of this program is the collaborative culture and supportive environment of the Department of Dermatology.

The incumbent will work collaboratively with the leaders of the College and Banner – University Medicine to further the tripartite mission of achieving excellence in clinical care, education, and individual and team-based research to position the department for continued growth through innovation.

Founded in 1976, the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is one of only 57 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers, a distinction that places it among the elite top tier of cancer centers nationwide. Entering an exciting new era of strategic growth and active transformation under the helm of Dan Theodorescu, MD, PhD, the UACC is poised for unparalleled success across all of its missions. Skin Cancer has been identified as one of the priority focus areas for UACC, which provides important support for this area of investigation.

Welcome Message from Rich Gallo, MD, PhD President, Society for Investigative Dermatology

Welcome to the 2026 SID Annual Meeting. My presidential theme this year—Appreciation—celebrates the opportunities and dedication of our global skin research community that has led to the remarkable diversity, creativity, and achievements that define skin biology today. Whether you are an academic investigator, a practicing clinician, an industry innovator, a patient advocate, or part of the infrastructure that supports research in dermatology, your unique perspective enriches our field and strengthens our shared mission to improve skin health for all.

This meeting offers an exceptional forum to explore complementary emergent data spanning basic, translational, and clinical research. By bringing together ideas and discoveries from multiple disciplines and methodologies, we open new avenues for collaboration and foster a deeper understanding of the complexities of skin biology and dermatologic diseases. The proximity of cutting-edge findings presented here enables us to make connections that may otherwise take months—or years—to fully realize.

Importantly, our annual SID meeting represents the premiere opportunity for convergence of ideas that support the acceleration of discovery. When we integrate insights from bench science, clinical observation, therapeutic development, and lived patient experience, we create the conditions for more impactful research and faster innovation. While including updates on the exciting therapeutics in development today, the research presented in our annual meeting has been the foundation for tomorrow’s advances. The SID community has long demonstrated that breakthroughs arise when we learn from one another, challenge assumptions, and work collectively toward solutions. This year, I seek to highlight the many positive contributions from our members that have made our successes possible.

As we gather in 2026, I invite you to engage fully—ask questions, share your expertise, and appreciate the contributions of colleagues across every sector. Your participation strengthens our Society and advances a culture of mutual respect, curiosity, and collaboration. Thank you for being part of this vibrant international community and for your continued commitment to advancing investigative dermatology. I look forward to an inspiring and productive meeting ahead.

Key Dates to Remember

  • November 10, 2025: Submissions open
  • January 13, 2026, 11:59 p.m. EST: Submission deadline
  • Mid-February 2026: Notifications sent
  • March 2-20, 2026: Late-breaking abstract window (see note below)

Submission Requirements at a Glance

New research only

The material must not have been published prior to submission of the abstract or presented at any conference prior to the date of presentation at the Annual Meeting.

One abstract per presenting author

You can only submit one abstract as the presenting author, though you may be listed as a co-author on multiple submissions

2,300-character limit

This includes your title, authors, institutions, abstract body, and all spaces.

Results must be included

Abstracts stating “Results will be discussed” or “Data will be presented” will not be accepted.

No AI-generated text

Text generated by artificial/augmented intelligence may not be included. However, research that used ML/AI tools for data acquisition or analysis is eligible for submission.
$50 submission fee
Payment is required online at the time of submission.

How Abstracts Are Reviewed

After the January 13 deadline, all abstracts are reviewed by the SID Committee on Scientific Programs plus two independent reviewers for each category topic. Reviews are conducted without knowing the identity of authors (blind review).

Top-rated abstracts will be selected for oral presentations (Plenary, Concurrent Mini-Symposium, or e-Poster Talk), while others will be featured in poster sessions

Travel Grants: Apply While You Submit

Travel grants are available for residents, fellows, students, lab technicians, and junior faculty. Awards are made to underrepresented minorities, investigators from developing countries, and on a merit basis.

The application is integrated into Step 3 of the abstract submission process, and the deadline is the same as the abstract deadline: January 13.

What About Late-Breaking Abstracts?

Late-breaking abstract submissions open March 2-20 for “unpublished high-impact research results that were not available by the regular abstract submission deadline and merit special consideration” – such as groundbreaking clinical trial results.

Important: The late-breaking window is not an extension of the regular deadline, and abstracts not accepted during the main review are not eligible for resubmission.
