The Department of Dermatology at the University of California, Irvine is recruiting outstanding applicants for a Dermatologist at the Assistant/Associate rank Clinical X Series. Candidates must possess a M.D., Ph.D., or M.D./PhD degree in the field of Dermatology or equivalent, and must be board eligible or board certified in Dermatology.

The successful candidate will work with a collaborative group of 23 faculty, 16 residents, 1 fellow, and dedicated staff within the department of dermatology.
In addition, the candidate will be expected to be part of UCI Skin, UC Irvine’s funded P30 Skin Disease Research Center, and participate in joint events which include the UCI Skin club which meets weekly, the annual Skin Symposium, and UCI Skin’s T32 training grant retreats and activities.

Criteria for the Professor of Clinical “X” Series: All ranks will be expected to have a record of substantial research; lead or have a significant intellectual and substantive contribution to a research program and/or be involved in other creative activities that would be expected to position the candidate, over time, to be a recognized academic leader in their field and obtain peer-reviewed funding. Creative activity may be highly integrated into clinical activities. To achieve this goal, the incumbent will be expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care or conduct patient oriented research; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Positions and the extent of protected time are dependent upon funding.

Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Appointment to this position is eligible for annual renewal and provides membership to the Academic Senate.

The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson Department of Dermatology, in partnership with the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) and UACC Skin Cancer Institute (SCI), invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. We are particularly interested in clinician-scientists with research expertise in Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer. Successful applicants will contribute to the research, educational, and leadership activities in the Department of Dermatology, UACC, and SCI, with their primary academic and clinical home in Dermatology. We anticipate that the successful candidate will devote 75-80% of their time to academic/research responsibilities, and the remainder to clinical responsibilities. Individuals whose research advances the understanding of the roles of signaling pathways, immune responses, carcinogenesis, and pigmentation, as well as interactions between immune cells and the cutaneous microenvironment, are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must have postdoctoral experience and hold an MD, MD/PhD, or DO degree, be board-certified in dermatology, and be eligible for licensure in the State of Arizona. The successful applicant is expected to secure extramural funding for their research program and participate in graduate student mentoring, as well as teaching to graduate and medical students. They are also expected to interact with other faculty on larger collaborative scientific projects.

The College of Medicine offers state-of-the-art programs in medical education, groundbreaking research opportunities, and leading-edge patient care, along with an active Medical Student Training Program. With 14 core faculty, and 9 residents, the Department of Dermatology is a comprehensive academic clinical department with established community partnerships in a wide variety of areas. Specifically, for skin cancer, there is a strong record of basic-translational/clinical research in melanoma and NMSC. The Dermatology Department is an integral component of the UACC Skin Cancer Institute (SCI) with a unique approach to address the high rate of skin cancer in the state of Arizona and beyond. Clinicians, scientists, epidemiologists, engineers, and pharmacists collaborate closely in a transdisciplinary manner, resulting in over 20 years of successful funding across multiple disciplines. The Bissonnette Centre for Dermatology Research of Université de Montréal (CBRDUM), a
unique initiative in the field of dermatology research in Quebec, is seeking its Scientific
Director.

The successful candidate will lead the scientific development of the CBRDUM while
conducting their own research program in fundamental, translational, and clinical research
with alignment to the existing center’s main research focus, including inflammatory skin
diseases, autoimmune diseases, and cancers. The CBRDUM promotes dermatology
research in both adult and pediatric populations. The position will be affiliated with either
the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM, adult medicine centre) or the
Centre Hospitalier Sainte-Justine (CHUSJ, pediatrics centre), depending on the candidate’s
profile.

Key Responsibilities

This is a remarkable opportunity to lead and shape the CBRDUM, fostering excellence
within the Faculty of Medicine at Université de Montréal, through your leadership,
innovative research, and active student engagement. You will promote your field of
research while actively contributing to the growth and prestige of a renowned institution. In
this role, you will be expected to:

  • Develop and maintain an active research program in the field of dermatology,
    including related fields such as inflammation, immunology, oncology, genetics, etc.
  • Develop and lead the centre’s strategic plan and scientific program.
  • Oversee the recruitment of dermatology researchers and clinician scientists.
  • Develop student recruitment strategies for MD, PhD, and graduate programs in the
    field of dermatology.
  • Coordinate the development of major research infrastructures, such as biobanks,
    databases, and the structuring and facilitation of clinical research.
  • Provide the vision for the scientific events and activities.
  • Participate in budget preparation.
  • Promote the centre’s institutional, local, and international visibility.
  • Participate in academic and extracurricular activities at the university.

Qualifications:
To excel in this role, you must:

  • Hold a medical degree (M.D.) with a medical specialization
    or
  • An education deemed equivalent, such as a PhD and postdoctoral training, may be
    taken into consideration.
  • Have an outstanding research record and a strong publication history in the field of
    dermatology.
  • Demonstrate the ability to mobilize academic members and foster collaboration
    and innovation.
  • Show a strong interest in a collegial management approach, with the ability to build
    consensus.
  • Communicate effectively and inspire collaboration.
  • Have sufficient knowledge of the French language or be determined to learn it once
    in post through the French language learning support program offered by UdeM,
    under the Université de Montréal Language Policy (pdf).
