A Legacy of Scientific Advancement<\/h3>\n

The SID was established in 1937 to fill a critical gap in the scientific landscape: a dedicated home for investigators studying the biology of the skin. At the time, dermatologic research was fragmented\u2014scattered across other specialties and journals. SID\u2019s founders envisioned a unified forum that could elevate the scientific study of skin to the stature it deserved.<\/p>\n

That vision came to life with the first SID Annual Meeting in 1938 and the launch of the Journal of Investigative Dermatology (JID) under founding editor Marion B. Sulzberger. Since then, SID has become the driving force behind the growth of investigative dermatology as a discipline and the advancement of discoveries in immunology, oncology, microbiology, regenerative medicine, and beyond.<\/p>\n

Why SID Matters<\/h2>\n

Investigative dermatology is far more than skin-deep. The field explores how skin functions as an immune organ, barrier, and signaling system\u2014and how its dysfunction can reveal or drive disease.
